Winter sky, 4 p.m.

Isn't this unusual?
The day before, the skies were filled with moisture that fell to the earth as sleet. About 3 inches worth here. Though the sun was brilliant and the sky only had scattered clouds the next day, there must have been enough remaining moisture to allow the late afternoon sun to show us a bit of a rainbow.

Nice pic!
That looks as though it may be a sundog aka parhelion. The sun would have been level with it to the right. They often split up into rainbow colours like that. This URL has some amazing ones:
