Today's newspaper features an article about shopping during the upcoming holiday season.

My son caught the incongruency of a couple of listed statistics.

$457 billion --- total projected U. S. holiday sales for 2006

$342 billion --- total estimated cost of Iraq war to date

I am aghast. Unless there is a typo or a major projection error, we will spend in one season more than the total cost of the war.

There is something terribly wrong.
