Akeelah and the Bee

If there is interest in your home prompted by today's Scripps National Spelling Bee that began today, be sure not to miss this delightful movie, Akeelah and the Bee.

And you might even plan now to include Scripp's
36 week study program.

Last year at this time, I picked up American Bee, which ended up becoming an RDA:

If you haven't already read this, you may be interested.

(I actually corresponded with Maguire about my remark that the writing is "spotty." He was a good sport. I was as baldly honest as ever -- and he still thought enough of my remarks to include a link to M-mv on his site. (*wry grin*))

My two youngest put Akeelah and the Bee on hold at the library last week. In my inbox this morning was the library's electronic notification that it's available for pick-up. Then two internet hops later, I see it mentioned here.

The bee buzz is nearly as loud as Brood XIII!

Heh, heh, heh.

I don' think this is the competition that interests my girls most, though. I think they'd really like to enter the Geo Bee.

We'll see.

Best regards.

I loved this movie. I first remembering hearing Donna mention it at Quiet Life.

We watched it when my brother and his wife (yes, the opera singer) were at our house visiting. We all loved it. They've since watched it with friends at home.

Enjoyed watching the last hour of the Bee on TV last evening....with one eye on my AT book :)

I will add Akeelah to my list.
